Dr. Peters received his MD and Urology residency from Johns Hopkins and completed a Pediatric Urology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Boston. He has been on faculty at Children’s Boston and Harvard Medical School, the University of Virginia, the George Washington University and now the University of Texas Southwestern. He was Chief of Surgical Innovation at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.. He is now the Chief of Pediatric Urology at the Children’s Medical Center and Professor of Urology in Dallas, Texas. His clinical interests include perinatal urology, minimally invasive urology and vesicoureteral reflux. He has been an active basic researcher with NIH funding in the areas of congenital obstruction, bladder development and vesicoureteral reflux. He has pioneered research and clinical applications of pediatric minimally invasive surgery, including robotics. He has chaired the AUA Guidelines Panel for Vesicoureteral Reflux, the data and safety board of the NIH RIVUR trial and the Section of Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He co-chaired the creation of a Pediatric Urology Research Strategic Plan for NIH. He is the pediatric editor of the Campbell-Walsh-Wein Textbook of Urology and recently served on the Board of Directors of the American Urological Association and the Advisory Council of the NIDDK at NIH. He serves on the Research Council of the AUA. Dr. Peters has published more than 195 original articles and over 100 chapters.
