Dr. Timothy Wilson is originally from northwest Oregon. He graduated from Stanford University in 1977and subsequently received his medical degree at Oregon Health Science University. He completed general surgery and urology training at the University of Southern California under Chairman of Urology Donald G. Skinner. He completed his fellowship in urologic oncology at City of Hope Cancer Center in 1992. Dr. Wilson was Chief of Urology/Urologic Oncology at City of Hope from 1992 through 2015. Currently, he is Professor and Chair of Urology and the Director of Urologic Oncology Research at the Saint John’s Cancer Institute (formerly known as John Wayne Cancer Institute) at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California. He lives in Malibu, California.

Dr. Wilson was a pioneer and early adopter of laparoscopic prostatectomy and laparoscopic radical cystectomy. He has become a leader in the use of minimally invasive techniques for urinary reconstruction, robot-assisted retroperitoneal and pelvic lymphadenectomy in addition to robot-assisted radical cystectomy and radical prostatectomy. He was one of the founding members of NARUS. His primary research interests include understanding surgical techniques that improve functional outcomes in men following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and understanding the clinical, pathological and genetic characteristics that determine lymph node metastasis in men with localized prostate cancer.

He is a strong believer in the mantra of City of Hope’s founder Samuel H. Golter: “There is no profit in curing the body if, in the process, we destroy the soul.”
